Professional Wrestling is a fantastic artform, the artform itself is as much about flamboyance and spectacle as it is about simulated combat.

In 2024, we have a wide range of options as to where we can watch wrestling from North American Promotions such as All Elite Wrestling & WWE to the top promotions in Japan as New Japan Pro Wrestling & Pro Wrestling NOAH.

However the feud that has captivated me as a professional wrestling fan originates from New South Wales, Australia where two combatants, who first battled just under 10 years ago at a beach hotel in Towradgi, are to take stage at the Metro Theatre in Sydney, Australia for the most prestigious championship in Australia, the PWA Heavyweight Championship.

These two combatants, are of course Charli Evans, the winner of the highly acclaimed 2024 King of The Metro Rumble and the current PWA Heavyweight Champion, Jessica Troy.

To understand more, I think I need to discuss the individuals:

Firstly, The Challenger, Charli Evans, a trendsetter in Australian Wrestling, has become by definition, a journeywoman competing around the world, but predominantly in the UK scene since 2017 where she would break down barriers for what is a heavily male dominated industry, competing in deathmatches and proving that regardless of the stigma that promoters in Wrestling think, gender should not matter in professional wrestling and she has proved it with her technical prowess & cunning deathmatch style has made her a unique and intriguing individual in the ring.

And her opponent, PWA World Champion, "The Arm Collector" Jessica Troy, a mainstay in Australian Wrestling and in my honest opinion, one of the best professional wrestlers in the world right now. What makes me appreciate Jessica Troy, is her intense and impressive technical ability and likeliness to attach herself and then attempt to detach her opponents' arm, all with a smile on her face that likens to her upbeat catchy theme tune, which may possibly be one of the best wrestling themes of all time. Much like Charli, she has paved the way for Women in Pro Wrestling, becoming the first woman to win the PWA Heavyweight Championship at the 2023 Colosseum Tournament.

At PWA Colosseum 2024 Night 1, it will mark 357 days since she won the PWA Heavyweight Championship from Ricky South, a championship she has held and defended with pride.

As mentioned beforehand, Charli & Jessica are no strangers to each other, and have had multiple matches together both as a tag team known as Blue Nation across Australia as well as US Promotions such as SHIMMER and RISE, and more importantly, as singles competitors, nonetheless this upcoming match on October 12th is the biggest encounter yet.

One of my favourite matches of all time, is the No Disqualification match between Charli & Jessica from PWA Black Label It Started Out With A Kiss for the PWWA Title, a championship that was once co-held by both competitors in 2015, in which is a match type that would typically favour Charli Evans, thanks to her deathmatch background but as the match would unfold. you would see Jessica Troy embrace this exact match type and as a result, would be the victor utilising barbed wire, attaching to Charli's arm with a Fujiwara Armbar for the submission win.

An overarching theme in all of the spectacle, is that at PWA Black Label, Charli Evans has never defeated Jessica Troy in singles competition but more importantly, she has also never been PWA Heavyweight Champion and that adds so much more intrigued and interest in a match that also acts as a first round bout of the PWA Colosseum 2024 Tournament, which is already shaped to be one of the best weekends that Australia has seen for professional wrestling.

As Colosseum calls, I will be watching as a friendship between a King & a Collector is tested with the biggest prize in Pro Wrestling on the line & a chance to advance in a tournament to acquire the Sword and etch their name in history in PWA's Aristocracy.

Thank You for reading this, since I wrote this article a whole flurry of changes have happened in PWA and the story of Jessica Troy & Charli Evans took a huge turn post-Colosseum but that story is still to be continued.

Thank You for taking the time out of your day to check this article out and please let me know how you feel about this, it’s my first ever article and hopefully not my last!
